About the Program

The vision of the MCB program at Virginia Tech is to develop and cultivate an inclusive environment that advances scientific curiosity, learning, and creativity; that values ethical conduct; that encourages community outreach and involvement; and that emboldens independent thinking and collaborations alike.

The MCB program at Virginia Tech is an interdisciplinary program in Molecular and Cellular Biology. The program has faculty members from seven departments across the Virginia Tech campus and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, incoming students may choose research projects from four broad categories: Cell Signaling and CancerInflammation and ImmunityMicrobiology and Virology, and Neurobiology.

Currently, around 50 faculty – with over 25 million dollars in external funding from the NIH, NSF, NASA, USDA, DoD and several private foundations – are affiliated with the program. Virginia Tech ranks #46 in the nation in NSF R&D Expenditures.
